+ Studio news: a note from the Directors

While we are still in winter, it is nice to know the solstice is behind us and the days are progressively getting longer towards spring.

It is a busy and productive period for us despite the well publicised challenges of the times and we look forward to the upcoming completion of some major projects like The Grand Hotel in Portarlington and the All Saints Estate in Wahgunyah.

We are also enjoying the development of our new studio in Dean Street in Albury lead by Dana Hutchins.  Albury and its surrounding areas has become the location of several great projects from pubs, clubs, a winery, bespoke residences and a unique ice cream shop and we look forward to sharing more in the future.

After 20 years in practice, we are evolving and growing in exciting ways…

+ Technē news: Introducing Albury Studio

We are delighted to announce Technē Albury is officially open at 621B Dean Street. After a year of planning, our regional studio is now open for business, headed up by Dana Hutchins.

Dana has a long connection with Technē, as a highly experienced Interior Designer. Before moving to Albury with her family, she had worked on various influential Technē projects such as The Espy, MRC Medallion Bar and a major workplace fit out at 80 Collins St, among other things.

We welcome back Dana, and as we start to build our Albury team, we give a warm welcome to Architect Rhys Pollock who started with Technē Albury a couple of weeks ago.

+ Technē news: 2022 marks 20 Years of Technē!

Technē is officially 20 years old this year. It is incredible to look back on how the business and team have evolved over these past two decades.

Nick and Justin started Technē as a partnership in 2002 on the back of opening their own bar and restaurant, called The Deanery. Initially we shared studio space with Six Degrees Architects in West Melbourne, followed by a long stint in Hardware Lane in Melbourne CBD, and then 5 years ago we moved to our current and much loved location on Rathdowne Street across from the Carlton Gardens.

Along the way, we have built a strong team of 30 Architects and Interior Designers, lead by Justin and Nick, with fellow Director Steve McKeag and Associate Directors Gabriella Gulacsi, Sam Sempill and Dana Hutchins.

We have developed enduring relationships with many clients over the years and it’s a pleasure to look back on the many great projects we have produced including several well known pubs and restaurants across the country.

2022 welcomes a new chapter as we open our new Albury studio. We can’t wait to see what the next 20 years holds.

+ Project Update: Grand Hotel Portarlington

Introducing Grand Hotel Portarlington, our latest completed project on the Bellarine Peninsula. Along with our client Little Group, we’ve brought this incredible heritage building back to life. Our design included reviving the charm of the Victorian-era hotel with contemporary touches in the bar and restaurant, a full reconstruction of the front veranda with it’s triple height structure and a complete refurbishment of accommodation offering. Adjoining the original heritage building is ‘The Atrium’ beer garden featuring nautical design influences, which we hear has already become a local favourite.
