+ Studio news: a note from the Directors

A warm welcome to the 31st Edition of our Technē newsletter. It’s about time we shared all the exciting projects and news we have from the start of the year.

Our team has been working tirelessly on a diverse range of projects, including hospitality venues in Geelong and Melbourne CBD, an epic rural training facility with a focus on ESD, as well as beautiful single and multi residential projects through our Albury studio. In recent months, we’ve also completed The Terrace café in the Royal Botanic Gardens and a brand new Grill’d in Perth.

We’re also thrilled to introduce our new superstar Practice Manager, Karen Choo, who has already made a significant impact on our team.

Be sure to scroll to the end of this newsletter for a link to our latest InDesign podcast, where host Alice Blackwood sat down for a chat with all three Directors.

We wish you all a great start to the year, and we’ll be sure to check back in with you soon.

Sincerely,

Nick, Justin and Steve.

+ Team Member Profile: Introducing Karen Choo!

We are thrilled to introduce our new Practice Manager, Karen Choo, who has been overseeing the operations of both our Melbourne and Albury studios. Karen brings with her a wealth of experience, having worked for a number of highly-regarded architectural firms, most recently Ewert Leaf, as well as experience with Melbourne property developer Beulah.

Her expertise and attention to detail is only surpassed by the warmth and support she brings to every single member of our team (including our favourite fury studio companion, Millie!) Not only a highly skilled professional; she’s also a proud mother of two amazing kids!

We look forward to working alongside Karen as we continue to deliver outstanding work to our clients, and we can’t wait to see how our team grows and develops with all that she brings to our studio.

+ The Terrace at The Royal Botanic Gardens

Our most recently completed hospitality project, The Terrace, only opened it’s doors a couple of months ago, and is already a roaring success. Located in the idyllic Royal Botanic Gardens, right next to the lake, it’s the perfect spot for a coffee or glass of wine. As quoted on their website ‘The Terrace awaits, Equal parts romance, Australiana, cool botanica and modern grandeur, throughout the four seasons, It is time to celebrate!’

+ A beautiful homestead addition in NSW

Our latest residential project, headed by our Albury studio, is located in gorgeous rural NSW. Our design intention was to create an addition to the space that perfectly complements the grandeur of this country homestead.

From the moment we stepped foot on the property, we knew we were working on something truly special, and we’ve been taking great care to preserve the historical integrity of the house while incorporating contemporary design elements that added a contemporary, modern feel.

Stay tuned for more updates and a closer look!

+ Grill’d in Perth

Once again we loved collaborating with Grill’d. This time our hospitality expertise was taken interstate, and as always, we approached the project with a focus on functionality, sustainability, and a sense of fun, crafting a space that is both inviting and functional.

Our design team worked closely with Grill’d to ensure that every detail reflected who they are as a well-known brand, from the signage and finishes, to the layout and flow of the space. If you find yourself on the other side of the country, be sure to stop by.

+ Technē in the media: Indesign Live Podcast

As Technē celebrates more than 20 years, Indesign Editor Alice Blackwood asks Nick Travers, Justin Northrop and Steve McKeag about how the business started, where it’s going, and the journey of hospitality environments over the past two decades.

‘Turning 20 is no small milestone when you’re a business in design. It also gives you lots of excuses to celebrate your people, your clients and the fabulous projects you’ve produced. When I recently caught up with the directors of Technē Architecture + Interior Design, the spirit of celebration and reflection was strong…’ – Alice Blackwood, Indesign Live
